This renovation and extension for a family home in the South Downs National Park, required a sensitive approach to balance the needs of a growing family within an area of stringent planning policy. The family needed more living space with a combination of open and secluded areas, as well as ample storage and improved circulation. A loft conversion with dormers was also required in order to accommodate the needs of their growing children, as well as providing the parents with a larger more comfortable area for themselves. A client led design process with emphasis on proportions and sustainable materials, led to a scheme that optimised daylight and flow and avoided bulky forms and large empty spaces, whilst adhering to the precise requirements of the Local Planning Authority.
